Cash Drawers
Let the money roll in to a cash draw! While a cash drawer is not really required, it does make the system a lot safer.
and means there is more accountability with regard to the staff operating the till. Cash drawers come in a variety of connection types, ranging from drawers kicked by the printer to those kicked by the computer on a serial (RS232) connection.
Major brands include Posiflex, Casio and some other, lesser known brands.
A note on voids A void is when the cash drawer gets opened without a sale being processed. This could be something like a customer asking for change (for a parking meter) for example, or it could be a staff member taking an IOU. You might want to stop this sort of behavour (or not). Utillity lets you choose.
When purchasing a cash drawer, ensure the notes fit the tray - a lot of imported cash drawers have inserts (or trays) that do not hold the South African currency.
Another point worth checking is whether you can remove the tray - this is useful if you need to replace the tray due to damage, or if you want to zip-lock trays at the end of a shift.
Something to check is that some cash drawers are opened by being "kicked" by the printer. If this is the case, ensure the printer you have/get is compatable. Alternatively, if you get a serial port connection (RS232) then you need to be sure that you get a computer with (enough) serial ports. Are you using a pole display?
